Pathfinder Project

Laura has been supporting Active Devon and Plymouth City Council Pathfinder project alongside Plymouth Argyle in line with the SEND and Trauma-informed practice work that’s taken place across Plymouth. Young people were able to hear about what Exim offers as well as ask any questions they had around dance.

It has been a great opportunity to work in collaboration with Plymouth Argyle and Exim looks forward to working further with them across our summer activities, and also to reach more young people across the city who may want to access our community services!

We look forward to the next one!

Ernesettle Communities Together

Beth has kickstarted weekly dance sessions in Ernesettle again following the pandemic. The weekly dance sessions are delivered in partnership with Space Shot Youth Project and Barefoot, Co-op Community Fund has funded this.

The group has been busy learning a new dance phrase and even creating their own dances, we look forward to working with the group throughout the summer!

Plymouth Cultural Education Partnership – Early Years Presentation

Exim Dance was invited to deliver a presentation at the Early Years PCEP forum event on 9th June at The Soapbox Children’s Theatre. Chloe presented our Family Movement Project research and findings. She also discussed the future developments of the project including our partnership with Barnardos

It was great to hear about all the other wonderful Early Years provision that has been happening across the city and Chloe had a wonderful time delivering the presentation to various organisations as well as early years practitioners!

From one Early Years event to another…

Early Years Collaboration Meeting

Laura attended a city-wide Early Years pedagogical meeting on 16th June alongside other organisations such as Stiltskin Theatre, Above Bounds, Real Ideas Organisation and The University of Plymouth BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies.

The focus of the meeting was to begin to foster deeper partnerships in order to develop a city-wide programme of artist residencies within the Early Years settings and curriculum.

We are very much looking forward to continuing to develop this programme of work!

Beechwood Primary Academy Workshop

Chloe and Beth had a wonderful day leading a series of fun dance workshops at Beechwood Primary Academy with each year group from Reception to Year 6, teaching 300 children in total. The children’s enthusiasm was incredible and we look forward to continuing to see some of them at our weekly after-school dance club!

The headteacher provided the following feedback:

“Thank you for an amazing day, the children all loved it!”.

With Flying Colours – College Road Trip

Kaitlyn and Charlie have been working hard with the Year 6’s from College Road Primary School co-creating a performance with the young people as part of the With Flying Colours Project.

Before they ramp up to their final 3 performances in July, Kaitlyn and Charlie took the group for a visit to The House at the University of Plymouth. The young people had a great time, they were taken on a tour of the building including the state-of-the-art facilities as well as partaking in a technical workshop exploring lighting, sound and stage equipment led by the technical team there, Felix, Mel and Rebecca. Finally, they engaged in an inspirational talk from Ruth Way the Associate Professor and Portfolio Lead for Theatre and Music and the Co-Director for Plymouth Conservatoire.

SEND Conference

Chloe and Beth attended the SEND Conference at the Plymouth Guildhall on 15th June. It was a wonderful day, meeting so many new people and talking about all the inclusive services we have to offer to the wider community. Lots of connections with both people and other organisations were made and we look forward to welcoming new faces to our weekly sessions!

Thank you for inviting Exim to have a stand at the event!

Artistic Director; Laura Nightingale was interviewed alongside Simon Wilkes from South West Water Community Fund for a podcast hosted by CSR Accreditation & Action Funder about social impact in the communities we work within. There were a lot of interesting discussions around how to provide a holistic approach to social responsibility as well as creating meaningful relationships!
