Highbury Trust

Chloe and Beth had a brilliant time facilitating a session for the residents at Plymouth Highbury Trust.

This is the first of the team’s bi-weekly sessions. These sessions developed from the success of our weekly session – Movement for All.

Change Makers

Over the past month we have been promoting our young people steering group – Change Makers!

The group is made up of 12 of the young people who attend our FREE weekly community sessions.

During February half term Kaitlyn and Hayley facilitated a session. We updated the group with news and developments within the company.

We want the young people to have a strong sense of autonomy through their participation in Change Makers, we spent the remainder of the meeting discussing the roles and responsibilities they would like to pursue.

Here are some of the roles and responses gathered from our meeting…

  • Mental Health Ambassador
  • Writing content for the website
  • Arts, Crafts & Wellbeing Activities
  • LGBTQ+
  • Diversity

Big well done to Kaitlyn and thank you to Graham Goulden for the training!

Thank you to Hannah and Youth Focus South West for joining us.

February Half Term

Exim Dance Company had a jam-packed half-term filled with 6 movement sessions for children and their families all across Plymouth.

The February half-term kicked off with our Family Movement session at Oxford House Creative Hub for 19 young people and their parents and guardians. It was so lovely to see some familiar faces as well as welcome some new families to our community hub!

During the February half term, we also led 4 Family Movement sessions in partnership with Barnardos across four different locations of Plymouth. These sessions incorporated the use of props and games alongside the movement. It has provided families the opportunity to meet new people, socialise and build relationships!

We also led an inclusive workshop for Friends and Families of Special Children at Oxford House Creative Hub. The workshop was open to young people from ages 5 to 20 alongside their parents and guardians. It was great to see how creative the group was, we even made our dance with props!

Over the course of the February half term, we taught 97 people across 36 families!

ITSD Dance Magazine

We’re excited to be featured in ITSD Dance Magazine’s upcoming feature, which will be released later in the month.

We’re among several other dance organisations who are recognised nationally and internationally.

The magazine follows dance organisations who deliver outreach programmes that not only and spread joy through this medium.
