Community Sessions

Within our community sessions we have been working on different phrases, exploring a range of dance styles and developing our creative skills. Alongside this, we have also been introducing and working on our Arts Award Certification with our groups.

One of our community groups – ADAPT has shown such focus and commitment this term.

They have been working on a group phrase led by Laura, as well as having focussing on creating new material in solos and duets.

One of the core team members Hayley left the following observation from the weekly sessions:

“It has been a pleasure to witness the group growing and rekindling relationships within creative work.”

Since September we have welcomed 34 new young people to the newest additions of our weekly young people’s timetable – Social Hour, Primary Dance and Communities Together Stonehouse.

It is brilliant to have welcomed so many young people to our already thriving community!

We have further plans in the new year to continue extending these sessions across Plymouth!

One of which is – Communities Together Keyham

The free weekly sessions will commence from 21st January 2022.

Fridays (term time only) 5pm – 6pm at Keyham Green Places

Family Movement Session

Chloe & Hayley had a brilliant time leading the second session as part of our pilot project – Family Movement Sessions.

Within this session, they delivered a fun Christmas-themed movement alongside the use of sensory props!

We even had Brett Lockwood take photographs of the Family Movement session.

We received the following feedback from our session:

“I wanted to say a big thank you for the 3-5 year old movement session this morning! My son had a brilliant time!” – Parent of young participant.

Since starting our pilot for Family Movement Sessions we have seen 40 young people and families take part!

This free session was for those aged 3 – 5 years with their parents/guardians, we have used these sessions to gather insight and feedback for future sessions, so keep your eyes peeled for more updates in the New Year!

Movement for All

Our Movement for All FREE weekly sessions have been running face to face from June 2021. Over that time, we have engaged with 133 people the past 7 months.

Over this term Chloe and Beth have had a wonderful time delivering the Movement for All sessions at Plymouth Life Centre. The group was really fortunate to have Brett Lockwood taking photographs during one session.

During the last term, they created a group Christmas dance together which has been filmed and sent to all for family and friends to watch!

We look forward to welcoming them all back in the New Year at Oxford House Creative Hub!

Mencap

Chloe and Beth have had a very enjoyable last term of 2021 leading virtual weekly sessions for Mencap.

The weekly virtual sessions have been running from September 2020 and in total across the 50 sessions we have reached 532 people.

The group has been learning different dances each week and has even created solos that they have shown to each other. It is wonderful to see them grow each week!

On 14th December, the group created a dance to ‘Last Christmas’ which was filmed and sent to them all to keep. Some family, friends, and colleagues at Mencap even joined the Zoom session to watch the performance!

We received the following feedback from our session

“Thank You for inviting me to watch the dance, it was a lovely celebration. Well done everyone!” – Mencap Colleague

“Really great dance, well done all!” – Mencap Colleague

The weekly virtual sessions have been running from September 2020 and in total across the 50 sessions we have reached 532 people.

We look forward to seeing them all in the New Year!

Gig Buddies

Chloe has led a ‘Christmas Social’ virtual session for Gig Buddies, at the December Christmas Social session there were 14 attendees, but across the 8 sessions led in 2021, 71 people have attended.

One participant stated:

“I look forward to these monthly sessions, thank you very much, it’s been great fun!”

We look forward to working with you again soon!

Women in Mind

We have been continuing with our Women in Mind sessions. We were visited by Helen from Care Nest who led the group through a meditation session.

We received lovely responses from this session and the group found it useful to wind down ahead of Christmas.

Women in Mind, FREE weekly sessions Thursday 6:30pm – 7:30pm at Oxford House Creative Hub.

College Road Primary School

Since the start of December Kaitlyn and Hayley have been visiting a group of 28 enthusiastic year 6’s at College Road Primary School, as part of a commission in partnership with ‘With Flying Colours’.

To start the initial sessions they have been facilitating team building and icebreaker activities to establish a relationship with the group and to begin generating ideas for our co-creation project!

Thank you to With Flying Colours for inviting us to take part in this project once again!
