As the summer holidays draw to a close, the Exim team reflect back on this year’s busy summer, which has been packed full of projects and workshops.
The new academic term is just around the corner, and Exim are excited to resume our community and education sessions and start new projects!
Open Company Class with Kaitlyn Howlett
This month we have had Kaitlyn (Hires and Programmes Manager) lead our Open Company Classes, accompanied by the incredible live taiko drumming by Elements Plymouth.

Onto a community workshop …
Dance Workshop at St Joseph’s R C Primary School for Feast of Fun Day
Beth (Community Dance Practitioner) and Kaitlyn (Hires and Programmes Manager) had a wonderful time at St Joseph’s R C Primary School for Caritas and Diocese of Plymouth’s Feast of Fun day with Plymouth CAST.
A huge thank you to all the staff, volunteers and participants for joining in with such a joyful session!

Team Wellbeing Day
The team had such a lovely wellbeing day in August, having lunch followed by a few hours of paddle boarding with the amazing Mel from SOUTH WEST SUP.
It’s incredible how rejuvenating a day like this can be! As an organisation, we believe it’s crucial to regularly bring our team together to unwind and connect on a personal level.
Taking care of our team’s well-being is one of our top priorities.

Off The Wall Aerial Dance Workshop
The biggest thank you to the amazing Off The Wall Aerial Dance for delivering an aerial sling workshop for some of our service users at Oxford House Creative Hub.
The group had a blast, and were encouraged to try new things in an accessible and engaging way!
Hearing our young people’s voices is a vital part of the way Exim work. Keep reading to hear about our latest Change Makers meeting.
Change Makers Meeting
We had a lovely Change Makers meeting with the fabulous Councillor Jemima Laing – Stoke Ward visiting our young people.
We couldn’t be prouder of our young people for sharing their experiences in their community and all helping feed into making a positive impact for the future!
We are passionate about creating opportunities for young people to link with local authorities and decision makers so that they feel more connected and empowered but also gain knowledge on how they can action the positive changes they are inspired to create.

The young people I have the joy to work with never cease to amaze me and I couldn’t advocate more for them as brilliant humans!”

West End Carnival Parade
What an absolutely amazing time Exim had leading the dance aspects of the West End Carnival Parade! From leading workshops in the community and education settings, to creating the parade movement, and finally, leading the dance aspects of the parade. Thank you to all the wonderful young people who joined us. Your energy and commitment was phenomenal, and we look forward to next year!

Exim Fit and Fed Summer Programmes
Exim has provided a total of four weeks throughout the summer holidays of their FREE Fit and Fed Programmes. These programmes include both Primary and Secondary groups, where they have taken part in workshops from Yoga with Haidee, Streetdance with Chris from Rythm City, and Stage Combat with Charlie from Crumbling Rocks.
The groups have also taken part in art and craft activities, learnt different dances, and overall have had a great time socialising with others and having fun!
Onto an upcoming event …
Family Movement Monday 18th September
These sessions consist of fun, theme-based movement activities for children in Plymouth, which incorporate games and props. They are open to family members and guardians with or without movement experience, offering a great opportunity to socialise with other families.
The next session is Monday 18th September 10am – 11am at Oxford House Creative Hub.
