Exim Dance Company is a Plymouth based award winning Dance Company known for their fresh and vibrant approach to making dance accessible for all. Exim creates live performance work that draws on the curiosity and inquisitive nature of the artists involved. With a thirst for adventure and a dedication to collaboration, Exim work across art forms, allowing our multi-dimensional work to reach out to new audiences. Stripping away pre-conceived ideas and being real about who we are and what we do, through our work we aim to reveal the visceral nature of dance, what it is to move and be moved. Exim’s work has been inclusive from its founding with a focus on developing work that is accessible to our audience members and participants. The Company tours both nationally and internationally. 2018 has seen the company present work and deliver workshops in Moscow, Spain and South Korea.

With a strong focus on inclusion, the company provides a varied range of professional development opportunities for local artists and students in partnership with University of Plymouth and Next Steps Southwest.
Exim deliver an extensive weekly package of classes from community, outreach and educationally and within professional settings. Exim exists to provide opportunities for ‘At Risk’ young people to participate in socially engaged dance classes. We are passionate about using dance to help vulnerable young people, breaking down the ideological barriers that surround dance, holding inclusivity at the heart of all of our work. We are dedicated to reducing barriers to regular participation in dance for young people of all ages marginalised as a result of their disadvantages in life. To do this we believe that as well as delivering our own programme of work we must also provide high quality training and opportunities to students and professionals wishing to work as dance practitioners in the community. The majority of Exim Dance Company’s community work is delivered in deprived areas of Plymouth or hard to reach communities.
In 2015 Exim Dance's Intern won Intern of the Year at the National Awards for Creative and Cultural Skills. In 2015 Exim Dance were awarded a special commendation from Grads for Growth for their work to develop graduates.
